BOOKING POLICY
About Us: The Mississippi Music Room is a warm, relaxed venue that features one of the widest array of music shows in Portland. It is a welcome environment for musicians and bands of all styles and passions. We are a non-smoking venue serving beer, wine and cocktails in the Atlantis Lounge attached to the music room. All of our shows that start at 8pm or earlier are all-ages shows. Shows that start after 9pm are not all-ages shows. We book 1-3 shows a night. In addition to music of all genres, we also feature dance performance, spoken word, poetry readings, art showings, films, lectures, comedy, performance art and workshops. Our room seats 50-60 people, but can accommodate up to 100. So You Want to Book a Show at The Mississippi: The Mississippi currently offers booking spaces in our music room for music gigs, benefits, lectures and other events free of charge, based on the expected draw for the event. The Mississippi is currently booking 1-3 shows a night 7 nights a week. Bookings on Sunday through Thursday are reserved for groups that can draw at least 35 people. Shows on Friday and Saturday are reserved for groups that can draw at least 65 people. So you want a show? Here's what you do: • Drop off, mail, or email your press kit and demo, attn: Sunny. If you have an electronic press kit and/or myspace page, this is the preferred way to receive your press kit. Let us know what kind of draw you expect, dates you are looking for a show, and how you plan to promote your show. Please allow 2 weeks before follow up. Please be patient as we receive lots of demos. • Sunny will call you to book a show. We generally like to book shows 1 - 3 months in advance. • You must confirm your show with Sunny 3 weeks before your show and provide all details, including cover charge, other bands on bill, etc. • You may also provide us with poster or flyer for your show. If you are a local musician, feel free to hang your own flyers at the pub. Promotion/Publicity What we do: We list all shows in our room in the music/entertainment section of The Oregonian, Willamette Week, and Mercury. We can provide you with a media list upon request. What you do: Send a press release and promotional materials (including a demo and press photo) to the above mentioned papers. You are responsible for putting up flyers and e-mail your fans to get them out for the show. If you would like your photo and a link to your website on our web page, please send this info (picture files need to be one of the following formats: jpg, gif or tif) along with your date and time of show to , our web manager. Mississippi Pizza Show Guidelines
Mississippi Pizza hosts two shows seven days a week, usually at 6PM and at 9PM. These are a wide spectrum of acts; we want all performers to feel at home when here and so have outlined below our house show policies. Compensation: Earlier shows are usually free. You are welcome to play for donations at any time. If you wish to play for a cover we ask that you be confident • you can draw at least 40 people • those people are willing to pay a cover • & that your cover is priced accordingly We can provide a door person upon request for a $10/hr fee ($30 minimum charge). If you collect the door you keep 100%. With the Atlantis Lounge (our full bar) situated at the very back of the house, it is our policy that those patrons need not pay cover since they are attending events there or dining in the bar specifically. Please make sure your door person is aware of this policy if they are not specifically hired by the Mississippi Pizza Pub. In addition to offering 100% of the door, we give each show band two "drink tickets" per performer (redeemable for 1 slice, 1 beer, 1 house wine, or 1 well drink). If there are multiple acts per show ( i.e., acts performing single sets), then each performer receives one drink ticket. Please introduce yourself to the on-staff bartender in the back Atlantis Lounge as he/she will be able to dispense these tickets and help orient you to our venue. Sound Issues: We are located in a residential neighborhood and have apartments directly above us. We ask that you keep this in mind when setting your levels for a show. Equipment/Room Specs: We are equipped with a PA system, including speakers, monitors, an 8-channel board. We also have 4 microphones and mic stands, as well as cords. We ask that you leave us your ID or credit card in order to use the mics. Sound Tech Services: We can provide a sound person upon request for a $15/hr fee ($30minimum charge). If you do not request a sound person, you are welcome to do it yourself on our on-stage mixer. If we provide a sound tech for you, she will use a board in the back of the room to get the best sound possible. In order to simplify and keep our system more organized, we no longer allow for bands to do sound themselves from the back mixer. Showtimes Shows should start as close to advertised times as possible, although we understand the occasional delay. Please, however, respect the starting times of subsequent acts as well as closing times: 6PM shows must finish by 8:00 PM at the latest, and 9PM shows must finish by 11:15 PM at the latest (12:15 AM Friday and Saturday).Send music to: Sunny/ Music BookingMississippi Pizza Pub 3552 N.
